Nottingham Castle Drawbridge Assembly Instructions

Top right hand, going clockwise:

Gatewall Floor
Winch Mechanism w/chain
Extra Winch Bracket
Stump Block
Drawbridge Brackets (2)
Drawbridge
Screws (4)
Side Walls (2)



Picture 2: Installing the Gatewall Floor (If not already installed)

With the wall turned upside down, fit the floor into place.

With the wall still turned upside down, slide the walls into place and glue using hot melt glue, white glue, or gel type Super Glue. Make sure that the wall does not interfere with the holes for the chains. Some carving of the foam may be necessary to insure a proper fit.



Picture 4: Attaching the drawbridge

Turn the gatewall on it's side - front towers facing up. Place the drawbridge in the arched opening, even with the floor of the passageway.

Place the pewter (no lead) brackets over the pins on the sides of the drawbridge and screw into place. Make sure to push the screws in as you turn the screwdriver.
DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN!

Place the second support bracket onto the end of the winch assembly.
DO NOT GLUE

Glue (using a gel-type Super Glue - not provided ) the winch support brackets onto the roof of the gate wall, where indicated by the two solid lines. We recommend using a glue accelerant.Set aside to dry.



Picture 9: Install the chains

Drop the chains through the drilled holes in the roof. Pull the chain through the
front passageway.

Push the cotter pin through the hole in the deck of the drawbridge and spread the legs of the cotter pin to secure the chain. Repeat for the other chain.

Your drawbridge is now ready to operate. Use the stump block to wedge the 5-spoked handle when the drawbridge is raised.
